I suppose I should start numbering my entries, for archival ease. As this is the first one of any actual worth and intent, it shall be numbered as such.

The patch is coming along nicely. Not only will it block those ridiculous viruses, but it should also serve to tighten up this place's security systems. A lock that actually works will be appreciated, I'm sure. I know that I'll benefit from it.

Whoever constructed the original system was woefully incompetent, not to mention the fact that it seems to have evolved, in some way. It's a sprawling, cancerous mass of a program. How it became more than a simple place for exchange of ideas is anyone's guess, at this point.

As of yet, I have been unable to establish just how it manages to cross the "world barriers", if such things exist. Granted, I have ascertained that the community itself is real, but whether these are truly other worlds it is connected to is another matter entirely. It still seems too illogical. Empirical evidence would be best, but I cannot even begin to calculate the dangers inherent in travelling to another world, not to mention how unwise it would be to leave my station. It would also be extremely foolish to invite someone here.

It still seems that only Setsuna and I have accessed this place from our world. This is for the best, of course. While it would be a little inconvenient to see another one of ours running around (I don't trust them not to run their mouths off), anyone not with us could have the potential to be catastrophic.

It's going okay, then?

People worldhop all the time without problems. Except that one time, but that was because someone messed it up on purpose, I think.

So far, yes. Of course, it's still in isolation, but there's no reason it shouldn't install properly when it's finished.

It's not so much the process that bothers me, but the worlds themselves. Most of them seem rather hostile.

That's really, really cool!

Oh. Hahaha, yeah, I guess that is a concern. Just a matter of picking the right world to visit, I guess.

I suppose so. But how does one go about choosing? After all, what may be considered a minor danger to some could be a fatal mistake for others. Even if I were to select somewhere that seemed to be my world from another time, that could also be a bad decision. What if I were to have an effect on future events?

It bothers me that some people seem to travel around with no consideration as to the danger they could be placing themselves in.

I guess a lot of people here go to visit their friends, and they trust them to keep 'em safe. I know 'Bee's on high-alert now that Ty Lee's here, in case some 'Con we don't know is around springs out of the woodwork with his other-world senses tingling, or something.

Otherwise, I guess you just gotta ask, I guess. Do research, or whatever.

Mm. The problem is, without being there myself, what research can I do? All I have is the word of the person who tells me about their world. And if their motives were less than charitable...well. I'm sure you can work it out.

You have a technique whereby you can block the 'viruses.' What do you ask in return for it?

Date: 2008-04-02 01:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nonesodangerous.livejournal.com
It is not complete. When it is finished, it will be introduced the central community structure, and so should affect all users for maximum effectiveness. As I am largely writing the program for my own benefit, I ask nothing in return.

From: [identity profile] createdpower.livejournal.com
This is good of you. I look forward to its completion.

Good of me? I do not do this as charity. That others will profit from this is simply a by-product.

You can really block out the viruses? That's amazing!

Date: 2008-04-02 01:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nonesodangerous.livejournal.com
I hope to. Their effects range from the irritating to the downright damaging, so it's only natural to wish to protect myself. I really don't know why no-one's attempted to block them before.

From: [identity profile] smallbirds.livejournal.com
I'm sure no one's tried because it seems very difficult to do...! I still don't understand the viruses at all, haha.

Good luck, though! I'm sure you can do it!
